there was a time in the 80s when Mad more or less was the scripture as far as I was concerned.

But when Bill Gaines died, I began to worry. At first everything seemed ok.

But then, the inevitable happened- they sold out (when they went to color and started advertising).

I understand the economic realities. But a magazine that made its mark by relentlessly fighting the advertising industry....well, it was blasphemy as far as I was concerned and I haven't gone back since.

FWIW, I still have all my old ones and occasionally break them out.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That is a cool b-day gift. I would have loved to have gotten that when I turned 16.
